Nests

Nesting[edit]

Nesting is a specific type of sleeping/resting, and the behaviours generally associated with it. Most omegas nest, as do most parents with young. Other dynamics may nest for relaxation and group connection, with many packs having 'pack nests' where they can rest together.

A nest is a resting surface lined with soft materials infused with the pheromones of a person's group mates. It usually has sides, allowing one to be surrounded. Cushions can be used to build up sides, as can movable dividers, or even built-in walls. A classical British/North American nest is usually constructed on a mattress, with sides and mattress covered with layers of blankets.

The scent of pack nests builds up as members use it, with replacements for old or soiled blankets hanging outside the nest, picking up pheromones. The scent of lone omega nests usually come from used blankets donated by (or stolen from) pack members' beds.

In other cultures, nesting material may include clothing, braids of hair, scent bottles, and even bricks that give off scent as they heat up. Of these, only clothing is common in North American nests. This is especially common with young adults, and people without a fixed, long-term address.

The thick pheromones associated with nesting can cause an experience similar to 'heat haze' - foggy thoughts, more open emotions, and heightened instincts. Feral and neglected patients may be required to nest to help stabilize their hormones and bonds. Children require a certain amount of nesting with parents to remain healthy.
